HoRav Moshe Faskowitz, Rosh HaYeshiva

080-YMH-09-2012The Rosh HaYeshiva, HoRav Moshe Faskowitz, is a grandson of Hagoen Horav R’ Avraham Jofen and the of the great grandson of the Alter of Novardhok, R’ Yosef Yoizel Horowitz, who established eighty Novardhok Yeshivos throughout Europe from 1898-1939. The Alter authored the great musar sefer, Madreigas HaAdam, after which the Yeshiva is named.

The Rosh HaYeshiva learned in Yeshivas Mir in Yerushalayim for six years under the tutelage of his Rosh HaYeshiva, HaGaon R’ Chaim Shmuelevitz zt”l and his Rebbi Muvhok, HaGaon R’ Nochum Partzovitz zt”l. He was a ben bayis in the home of HaGaon R’ Beinush Finkel, and forged a very close personal relationship with him. He later learned in Bais Medrash Govoha in Lakewood for sixteen years under HaGaon R’ Shneur Kotler zt”l, from whom he received Semicha. Rav Faskowitz also received Semicha from HaGaon R’ Yaakov Jofen zt”l and HaGaon R’ Aaron Soloveitchik zt”l.

The Rosh HaYeshiva absorbed the unique level of intensity and leadership qualities from his mentors both in learning and Hashkafa. The most important influence on the Rosh HaYeshiva was his illustrious grandfather, HoRav HaGaon R’ Avrohom Yoffen; from when Rav Faskowitz absorbed the absolute beauty of musar, and how it can and should permeate one’s life and being.

HoRav Faskowitz was appointed Rabbi of the Young Israel of Redwood of Canarsie, a position that he held for ten years. For five of those years he served as President of the Young Israel Council of Rabbis. For the last sixteen years Rav Faskowitz has been the Rav of the Merkas HaTorah of Hillcrest. Fifteen years ago, in honor of Horav Chaim Baruch Faskowitz, the Rosh HaYeshiva’s father, the Rosh HaYeshiva established Yeshiva Madreigas HaAdam. The Yeshiva follows the Musar and Hashkafa of the Sefer Madreigas HaAdam, and the Sefer HaMusar V’Hadaas, authored by HoRav HaGaon R’ Avrohom Jofen. Rav Faskowitz delivers a weekly musar shmooze to the entire Yeshiva in his special way: articulate and charismatic, projecting energy and enthusiasm.

Our Menahel, Horav Avraham Yitzchok Berman, joined the Yeshiva at its inception. Rabbi Doniel Milgram
Rabbi Doniel Milgram came to Yeshiva Madreigas HaAdam as a bochur 13 years ago. He was drawn to the Yeshiva because of the Rosh HaYeshiva. He found that the Rosh HaYeshiva possessed what he was looking for in a rebbi: warmth, an ability to give individualized guidance, and someone who was a formidable talmid chochom. Currently, Rabbi Milgram teaches a Gemara Bekius Shiur and a Gemara B’iyun Shiur during the afternoons, as well as a Gemara Bekius Shiur in as part of the Night Yeshiva. Rabbi Milgram helped start several successful programs in the Yeshiva, such as the Yeshivas Hakayitz program (running for seven summers) and the Night Yeshiva of Yeshiva Madreigas HaAdam, which is tailored for those who work during the day and who can, therefore, not be part of the regular Yeshiva day schedule.

Rabbi Doniel Pollak
Rabbi Doniel Pollak learned in Yeshivas Ner Yisroel under the leadership of Rav Yaakov Ruderman zt”l; in Gateshead Yeshiva under the leadership of Rav Leib Gurwicz zt”l; and in Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn under the leadership of Rav Shmuel Berenbaum zt”l. He then learned in Kollel for approximately two years in the Manhattan Kollel and 14 years in the Bais Yosef Novardhok Kollel in Brooklyn. In Yeshiva Madreigas HaAdam, Rabbi Pollak delivers the highest level Gemara B’iyun shiur and a Musar Vaad Sunday through Thursday mornings.

Rabbi Yaakov Sebrow
Rabbi Yaakov Sebrow learned for fourteen years in Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim under the leadership of Rav Henoch Leibowitz zt”l. and received Semicha Yoreh Yoreh Yadin Yadin. Prior to joining Yeshiva Madreigas HaAdam, Rabbi Sebrow taught a Gemara class at night for working men, and a beginners’ Gemara class in Congregation Havurat Yisrael. He is the regular featured speaker during Shalosh Seudis at Congregation Havurat Yisrael. In Yeshiva Madreigas HaAdam, Rabbi Sebrow delivers a Gemara Shiur Sunday through Thursday mornings. He lives several blocks from the Yeshiva, making it easy for his talmidim to eat as his house.
